Erik Musch, data coordinator during Gay Games Amsterdam 1998

During the Gay Games I first volunteered at the call centre and then worked two months as a staff member with Liesbeth van Houten. My task was to work out the data collection of the sports results. I had to make sure that the results were collected centrally – at the headquarters in the Stopera – and were passed on to other departments.

We gave our team the name Data City. I worked with Eugène Litamahuputty and he recently found me via LinkedIn. I am very happy to read that ‘25 years of Gay Games Amsterdam 1998’ is going to be celebrated and at a reunion I definitely want to be present.

In the meantime, I have read the articles on gaygames98.ihlia.nl and also the articles by Paul van Yperen on movisie.nl, a lot of nice and good memories came up. Also, some not so good memories, like the money shortage just before the opening. This made it impossible to use several facilities for e.g. data collecting and so we had to improvise enormously.

I would say: to be continued, and I am looking forward to further updates on ‘25 years Gay Games Amsterdam 1998’.
